In the beginning of the century, a confectioner named Alkiviadis Kalabokis, a refugee from Smyrna, settled in Sitia, on the island of Crete. At his pastry shop in the town centre, the people of Sitia and the visitors of the island were able to find unique sweet and ice cream delights, prepared with the meticulous care and commitment of a real expert, from pure ingredients and based on time - cherished, traditional recipes from Constantinople. In 1950, Alkiviadis’ son, Fokion Kalabokis, took over the family business and set product standardisation afoot, while retaining their traditional character, so that distribution of goods be extended outside the narrow confines of his hometown. In 1985, the lead was passed on to the third family generation, Alkiviadis and Christoforos Kalabokis, and along with it the unfailing devotion to confectionery, the artistry and the love of tradition were bequeathed. All the products are based on the same quality of taste and have accompanied the daily and social activities of the Cretan people through the ages.
